Deepika Padukone and Ganesh Hedge
For his latest music video from his album Let's Party, choreographer-turned-singer Ganesh Hedge has pencilled in none other than the tall and lissome Deepika Padukone.
The song, Main Bollydude Ganeshan, features Padukone protecting the hero, played by Hegde, from a killer. Interestingly, the video is similar to the Austin Powers film series.
"If you have watched Austin Powers, it is always the heroine who walks away with the laurels. Likewise it is the heroine who is the "hero" in my video. It has a retro feel, and because Deepika is tall and has the look and personality of that time, I felt she was right for the video. The plot of the video shows a killer on the prowl to get me, while I am the clumsy oaf unaware of it. She is the one who protects me from getting killed," Ganesh says.
With Deepika joining stars like Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and Hrithik Roshan - all of whom have been in Hedge's previous videos - did he want to show his star power in the film industry? Replying point blank he says, "It is not about power! It only shows their goodness that they have agreed to be a part of my endeavour. I made the album because I felt that pop culture was dying. It is an attempt to revive it. They have only supported me. I feel honoured that they backed my enthusiasm."
Buzz has it that Shah Rukh Khan favoured him over other dance directors. "Its not that Shah Rukh Khan only works with me. He works with other choreographers too. It is just that he feels I can do justice to some of his numbers. Songs like Chammak Chalo and Criminal were done with the intention of giving the actor a larger-than-life image. And it worked. Even the video that I did for his team Kolkata Knight Riders was done to create the required impact. Shah Rukh feels that I have the talent and I am fortunate to work with him."
There is a lot that Ganesh is looking forward in 2012. "I have been offered scripts to make my debut as an actor.
I have also been offered scripts to make my debut as a director. I will do both this year," he laughs. Taking you completely by surprise the choreographer also adds, "The most important thing I am looking forward to is fatherhood. My wife Sunaina and I are expecting our first baby in the first week of March. I just can't wait to hold my bundle of joy in my arms."
